Draft Resolution

For revision

WHEREAS,  our state founders in 1819 chose as the first State Seal a rendering of the state inscribed by its rivers.

WHEREAS,  the enduring importance of these waterways remains visible on the official Great Seal of Alabama 200 years hence

WHEREAS, waterways served a vital role in early settlements, transportation, agricultural, industrial, and cultural development  in the state

WHEREAS, Alabama’s rivers are not only a part of our past but are a vital component of our future.

WHEREAS,   this resolution is nonbinding, the designation of "Alabama the River State" serves to honor our heritage and history, celebrate our environment, and embrace the unique and globally significant assets entrusted to us.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALABAMA, that Alabama is the River State.
